He
held the door as the lady passed through;
No big deal just the right thing to do.
He is the man who proudly wears the cap,
Under which is not just an ordinary chap.
In the shopping mall he might be seen
resting in a chair,
Wearing the hat covering thinning grey hair.
His thoughts often visit those years that
have passed,
His military service is among the memories
he’s fondly amassed.
His views haven’t changed much over the
years.
Much of what he hears now is a shock to his
ears.
He believes in God, country and the
Patriot’s fight
And politically he most likely leans to the
right.
Yes, this is a veteran as is embroidered
boldly on his hat,
He proudly displays this status most
anywhere he is at.
It may also show the military branch in
which he served;
For his service to this country our respect
and gratitude is well deserved.
