Commander Stephen A. Banks, USN (ret.) is the author of Looking Backward: Don Banks – One TBF Turret Gunner’s Story.  According to the book description, “This is the story in words and photographs of Banks – son of a single parent family in Buffalo, New York during the Great Depression who enlisted in the Navy during World War II and became a TBF torpedo bomber turret gunner. The book focuses extensively on Banks’ training and ultimate service with one of the Navy’s top composite torpedo bomber/fighter squadrons of the war – VC-66. It paints a vivid picture of what life was like for a young Sailor trying to do his best to contribute to the victory that had to be won while helping to ensure that he and his squadron shipmates survived.”
