Major Robert H. Kyle, USA (ret.) is the author of The Fifth Season.  According to the MOAA, “Though a work of fiction, this story is loosely based on the experiences and friendship of a doctor and a male nurse during a tour in Vietnam (1967-68) and their efforts to merge military duties with medical aid to Vietnamese civilians. The book depicts daily activities of an evacuation hospital and is related on a personal basis. It also tells the story of an attempt to bring an industry to a small Vietnamese village, namely a dairy to help supply the nutritional needs of the dependent Vietnamese children, and some of the difficulties encountered in seeking assistance form the military and the government.”
