Colonel Richard B. Beal, Jr.,
USA (ret.) “served as a Infantry officer in World War II and with the CIA in various posts overseas. He has published
articles on terrorism and on the secret operations of OSS. Richard B. Beal is the author of The
Cat Will Mew and Dog Will Have His Day and Sparrow: Sparrow Mission. According to the MOAA, The Cat Will Mew and Dog Will Have His Day
is “set in the early 21st century in Washington, Great Britain, and North Carolina, this novel begins on three separate
and unrelated tracks. As the tracks and the characters gradually merge, the story builds to its climax. The historical aspects
are partly factual, partly an adoption of one side of the disputed historical evidence, and partly pure fiction.”
According to the book description of
Sparrow: Sparrow Mission, “This is a World War II story of three American (OSS) officers sent
on a secret and sensitive mission behind German lines. They parachute in the dead of night from a British bomber into an obscure
corner of Hungary. They are to find and convince certain key figures in the Hungarian government to sever their alliance with
Germany and surrender unconditionally to the Allies. Their mission is complicated by the bewildering deportment of the Hungarian
villagers who find them first, the duplicity of a Hungarian general, the efficiency and cruelty of the Gestapo, and the wiles
and whims of some beautiful Hungarian women.”
