 In 1951, William L. Childers joined the United States Marine Corps.  He served in Korea from 1951 to 1952 at a gunner on an M46 tank.  In 1954, after discharge he attended Southern Methodist University and graduated in 1961 as Methodist Minister. William L. Childers entered into the Navy Chaplain Corps; Later, from 1968 to 1969, he served as the Chaplain for the 2BN, 9th Marines in Vietnam. He completed his career as a Methodist Minister and spent 11 years as an Administrative Hearing Officer for the City of Dallas.  In 2003, William L. Childers became a volunteer chaplain for the Dallas Police Department.  He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander.
