Madeleine Carroll has been married for 42 years and spent 20 of those shuffling around to support her husbands Navy career. She has three sons and two granddaughters. She also spent 20 more years as a soldiers mother when her son joined the military. Madeleines experiences in this capacity have inspired her new novel, The Dead Cattle Ranch Mystery.  The Dead Cattle Ranch Mystery follows a young boy who has to move with his mom onto his grandpas ranch out west, as his father leaves for active duty. He must abandon his city ways and take on the duties of the ranch in order to discover the cause of the mysterious cattle deaths.

I want my book to help children realize that the change in their family set-up will not be the end of the world, Carroll said, I want them to be inspired to take the challenge head-on and gain some strong morals in the process.

With a Hardy Boys-style curious sense of investigation, The Dead Cattle Ranch Mystery addresses many issues facing children today such as bullying, an over-reliance on technology and the misconceptions kids have about older generations.

After teaching language arts for many years, she is currently teaching math, but continues to be passionate about her art and writing. Madeleine and her family are very active in their church community. Their whole family is thankful to all forms of military work for the opportunities it presented them and the honorable work they continue to do.
