Brigadier General Edmund L. DuBois, USA (ret.) is the author of In the Name of Church.  According to the book description, “In 1572, there is an uneasy peace in the bitter religious wars between Catholics and Protestants in France. Madeleine, daughter of a nobleman, and Colette, her bright but unlettered maid, find themselves fending off strange attempts by a Catholic bishop who is determined to take control of the maid because he professes to believe she is bewitched. A royal wedding in Paris provides the opportunity for Madeleine to seek excitement and shield Colette from the bishop. Madeleine and Colette have romantic affairs, but the Saint Bartholomew’s Day massacre of Protestants turns the happy royal marriage into macabre tragedy and gives the bishop the chance to attempt his evil intentions- yet once again, Colette escapes. In a final confrontation, the bishop’s true motive is unmasked, and believing himself possessed by the Devil, he goes insane. Madeleine, because of the terrible happenings “In the name of church,” disavows affiliation with any church, and takes her worship directly to God.”
